Meet the Judges: Amy

One of the Judges for CupcakeCampDC 2010 is Amy.

Amy's friend contacted CupcakeCampDC to see if Amy could get a ticket since they sold out so fast. In pleading Amy's case, we learned two things:

1) "She makes endless cupcakes, reads cupcake blogs, walks around with an I <3 Cupcake bag [...] she’s a cupcake machine."

2) "Her birthday is September 24th – only a few days after the event"
CupcakeCampDC thought it would be a great surprise to offer a judging spot to Amy as a birthday present and a thank-you for her enthusiasm. Needless to say, Amy accepted!

Tell us a little about yourself

I work full time as a marketing manager at a landscape architecture firm and part time as a dog trainer. I am a total dog person and besides training other dogs, spend lots of time with my border collie, Mango (yes named after the fruit, well, a fruit smoothie, NOT after the SNL character). I grew up in Northern Virginia, graduated from UVA in 2001.

What is your favorite type of cupcake?

My favorite type of cupcake has amazingly moist cake and a perfect amount of [frosting] that compliments the cake rather than overtake it. If you're talking about a specific flavor though, I always gravitate towards mint chocolate cupcakes. Chocolate cake is my favorite and the mint just adds a nice kick and lightness to it. I made some a few months ago that were to die for.

If you had to describe yourself as a cupcake, how would you?

Hmm...this is a hard one. One thing I love about cupcakes is how much variety there is, they can be anything really. I am like a cupcake in that I am small and can be sweet, but there are times when I be a little tangy and crazy. Does that answer the question?

What is your favorite local cupcake place?

I'm guessing a lot of people would go for the easy one and say Georgetown Cupcake, and I'll admit that it does rank very highly on my scale, but I'll go with a lesser known place called Cake Dreams in Rockville. I discovered it over the winter and they make the most amazing yellow lemon cake, the frosting was unlike anything I've ever had, so light and fluffy, not too sweet, just perfect.

What is it about cupcakes that you like?

I am a petite person and gravitate towards things in little packages so cupcakes are just that, perfect little bites of cake in a small package.
